Andrea's Visit

Andrea Chaira, Jeanne's daughter, was able to come and visit with us. She had the opportunity to go to Sandy to do some work and while she was here, she came to visit us. We had a family dinner so she could get reaquainted with the girls. It was really fun to have her here. We hope she can come back again.

Since Abe couldn't be here with Andrea, she brought his picture. So he was actually with us in spirit. Hope he enjoyed himself as much as we did
Evan always poses for his pictures (Hmmm, wonder if he's had his picture taken before)

Brother and Sister Get-Together

We had a brother/sister get-together on August 16th. Lyn and Patti were the hosts and they served some yummy beef. Everyone else brought something and so we all ate to our hearts content and had a nice visit also. We were so glad that Phil and Jane were with us because it was just a week after Phil had his open heart surgery. He did really well. Also, we were pleased to have Jim and Nina here to share this time with us. They were here to attend BYU Education week. Now if Jeanne had been with us, we would have all been together.

This is Lyn with his champion show dog. He is a really nice dog and when they let him run, he will never leave their yard--he just stays right inside of their sidewalk.

Figured I'd put my fingers up before somebody else did

Phil and Jane and Phil has his heart pillow with him. When he coughs or laughs he holds the pillow up to his chest area to prevent any damage to his surgery area.

Girls Weekend in St. George (was it a partay or fartay?)

Last weekend Lorrie, Jeri, Kaci, Alex, Jamie, Eric and the kids all headed out to St. George. We had tickets to go to the Tuacahn outdoor theatre and went to see the Big River. It is about Huck Finn's time with the slave Jim on the river. It was an excellent play with awesome music. We left Spanish Fork on Friday afternoon and made it to St. George in time for dinner and relaxing for a few minutes at our hotel. Jamie and Eric stayed with his aunt and uncle and so we didn't even see the kids. We all headed to the play and made it there in plenty of time. The play started at 8:00 and got over with at 11:00. We had tickets three rows up from the stage and that was an awesome place to be. When Huck and Jim were in there raft they actually ran water onto the stage so it looked like they were really on the river. That was a great effect to the play.

Here we are just before leaving Lorrie's house.

This is at the rest stop on our way to St. George. Couldn't resist taking this picture

Here we are, me, Kaci and Alex in front of our hotel

This is the beautiful Abby Inn. Nice place to stay. Each morning they have a really nice breakfast--one that we could find something to eat without feeling guilty and the best part--it comes with the room so we didn't have to pay extra for breakfast.

This at the Tuacahn, just as you are coming into the area. The red rocks are beautiful to look at.

Us girls before going into the outdoor theatre

Look at those huge rocks and compare them to the car just below them.

Jamie and Eric

Just before going into the theatre--there is this water that runs right through the middle of the lobby and it is just awesome to see.

Sat. morning we went to the temple. Kaci and Alex did baptisms for the dead and Lorrie, Jeri and myself did Initiatories. We got done before Kaci and Alex and so we went around to wait for them to come out of the baptistry.

Look at the big, beautiful trees. Lorrie and Jeri were in a deep conversation.

Standing on the steps of the temple

The St. George temple. Isn't it just beautiful?

Standing in front of Brigham Young's winter home. He only lived in this home for about 4 years before he died. The house is painted in the colors that the home was originally painted.
Standing at the Mulberry tree that was used to feed the silk worms that Brigham Young had raised here. Many times the women would carry the cocoon in their apron pockets to keep them warm and so they could feed them. It took 3 cocoons to make one string of thread and it would be one and 1/2 miles long.

They also raised apples and pomegrantes. We picked a pomegranet off the tree, however it won't be ripe for awhile. MMMMMMM hope it will be good.

We left for home on Sunday after attending a Sacrament meeting in one of the wards in St. George. On the way home we stopped at Cove Fort. This is the house that Ira Hinckley raised his 12 children in. They brought it from Salt Lake so people could see their home. It had only two rooms in it and a small loft for sleeping. 12 kids--and we complain about our homes.

This is the fort. The trees inside the fort are the original trees that Ira Hinckley planted. Ira Hinckley is Pres. Hinckley's grandfather. There were no wars fought at this fort. It ended up being a stopping point for those people traveling to Salt Lake City. They fed about 25 people every night and put them up in one of the rooms.

We had a really great time on our girls weekend to St. George. It was great to go with the girls.

Taking a Nap

One day in the middle of June, Gary got up to go to work and lo and behold his back was hurting him really bad. He couldn't stand up straight. He went to the doctor and he said it was a herniated disc in his back. Needless to say, Gary had 2 months off work, trying to get his back to heal. He was in so much pain that he couldn't sleep in the bed and so many nights he would go sleep in the car because he could sleep out there. We finally went out and found him a recliner that he can now sleep in. He has been sleeping in his recliner for the last month or so. Here he is taking a Sunday nap in his "bed". Of course, notice where the remote is.
